Attorney Mathew Work founded Carlson & Work in 2016 with the goal of transforming the practice of law into a more accessible and client-centered experience. Recognized as a nationally acclaimed trial attorney, Mathew has built a reputation for excellence in both litigation and legal strategy. He is also a respected professor of law and political advisor, providing expert counsel in a range of legal and governmental matters.

As a trial lawyer, Mathew’s national recognition includes being named to the National Trial Lawyers’ prestigious lists, including Top 40 Under 40 in multiple categories. He is an expert in high-stakes criminal defense and family law, having been named one of the Top 10 Trial Attorneys by the Nevada Trial Lawyers Association in 2019 and 2020, and receiving the Nevada Attorney of the Year award from the Top 100 Registry in 2020.

Mathew’s expertise extends beyond traditional litigation. He served as the former outside General Counsel for PSR, the nation’s largest NFL agency, where he negotiated contracts for high-profile coaches, executives, and personnel, establishing him as a leading authority on NFL contract negotiations and business development.

His academic credentials are equally impressive: Mathew graduated summa cum laude with a degree in economics from the University of Nevada, Reno, where he was a collegiate athlete. He went on to earn his law degree magna cum laude from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, where he received several honors, including the Jefferson Award and Cali Award. He has also taught as an adjunct professor, specializing in legal theory and trial advocacy.

Mathew’s commitment to excellence in the legal field is reflected not only in his practice but also in his service as a thought leader, educator, and mentor. In addition to his private practice, Mathew serves as an adjunct law professor and as a lecturer in mock trial at the University of Nevada, Reno and Truckee Meadows Community College.

Outside of his professional life, Mathew is a devoted family man, married to Kalie Work, a Washoe County elected official, and a proud father to his daughter, Kennedy.
